This video lesson features a theoretically simple, but technically challenging Garcia solo from the Grateful Dead classic "Cumberland Blues." This is the solo after the first verse. It's ONE chord....how hard could it be? Well, when it comes to sorting out what scales to use, it's actually not that tough.

The challenge is creating phrases that work, landing on the right notes, and doing it all at a steady, fast tempo. In this lesson you will use a few different positions on the neck, and explore concepts such as target notes, sequencing, and phrasing. You'll pick up a nice set of Jerry-style "country blues" licks to add to your arsenal, and expand your musical vocabulary.
